Ingredients

For the Orange Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.75 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • zest of 2 oranges
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt

For the Frosting

  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3–4 tablespoon heavy cream or as needed for consistency
  • orange food coloring optional for visual effect

Instructions

  • Preheat oven and prepare pans
  • Cream butter and sugar; add eggs and wet ingredients
  • Combine dry ingredients and mix with wet
  • Divide batter and bake 25–30 minutes
  • Cool layers completely
  • Beat frosting ingredients until fluffy
  • Assemble and chill cake
