  • 1 medium Yellow onion Finely diced
  • 4 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 24 oz Marinara sauce Store-bought or homemade
  • 14.5 oz Diced tomatoes Canned
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Red pepper flakes Optional, for mild heat
  • Salt and pepper To taste
  • 2 cups Mozzarella cheese Shredded, divided
  • 1 cup Sharp cheddar cheese Shredded
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese Freshly grated
  • 8 oz Cream cheese Softened (for creaminess)
  • 1 cup Mushrooms Optional, sliced
  • 1 Green bell pepper Diced
  • Fresh basil For garnish
  • Italian sausage Optional, replace half the beef

Instructions

  • Boil pasta in salted water until al dente; drain and toss with olive oil.
  • Brown ground beef in a skillet; add onions and garlic.
  • Add marinara, tomatoes, and seasonings; simmer 10 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F; grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  • Layer half the pasta, dollops of cream cheese, half the meat sauce, and cheeses.
  • Add remaining pasta, sauce, and top with remaining cheese.
  • Cover with foil; bake 25 minutes, then uncover and bake 15 minutes until golden.
  • Let rest 10 minutes; garnish with basil before serving.
