Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour for cake batter
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar for cake batter
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder for cake batter
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup brown sugar for topping
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar for topping
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder for topping
  • 1 ¼ cups hot water to create sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and grease an 8x8 baking dish.
  • Mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, salt in a bowl.
  • Add milk, butter, vanilla and stir until combined.
  • Spread batter evenly in baking dish.
  • Mix brown sugar, cocoa and granulated sugar for topping and sprinkle over.
  • Pour hot water over the topping; do not stir.
  • Bake 35–40 minutes until top is set and center is jiggly.
  • Let it rest 5–10 minutes before serving warm.
