Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20) Can substitute turkey or chicken
  • 8 ounces pasta (elbow, rotini, or shells) Short pasta holds sauce best
  • 2 cups beef broth Low-sodium preferred
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce Base of sauce
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Freshly grated melts smoother
  • 1 medium onion, diced Yellow or white
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Fresh preferred
  • 2 tablespoon ketchup Adds sweetness
  • 1 tablespoon mustard (yellow or Dijon) Adds tang
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce Umami boost
  • salt & black pepper To taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil If beef is lean

Optional Add-ins

  • bacon bits For bacon cheeseburger pasta
  • dill pickle slices Chopped, stirred at end
  • diced tomatoes Fresh or canned
  • Velveeta For extra creaminess

Instructions

  • Heat skillet over medium heat. Add beef (and olive oil if needed) and brown until cooked through.
  • Add diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté until fragrant and translucent.
  • Stir in beef broth and tomato sauce, scraping any browned bits from bottom.
  • Add ketchup, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well to combine.
  • Add uncooked pasta. Cover and simmer over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally.
  • Cook until pasta is tender and sauce thickens (about 10–12 minutes).
  • Remove from heat and stir in half the shredded cheese until melted.
  • Top with remaining cheese, cover with lid, and let rest for 5 minutes.
  • Garnish with optional toppings like bacon bits, pickles, or diced tomatoes. Serve warm.
